Photos and Video: 50th Anniversary of March on Washington

On August 28, 2013, Washington, D.C. celebrated the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream Speech." It was a rainy day but there will still thousands of visitors lining the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and stretching as far back as the Washington Monument grounds to see the many speakers.

Former President Bill Clinton and current President Barack Obama spoke on the same steps that King delivered his stirring sermon on equality and justice. As the original event included a march for jobs and freedom, there was a march for many of the same issues that still need to be addressed by the nation 50 years later. Despite the progress that has been made, there is still much work that needs to be done.

There was actually another commemorative event four days earlier on August 24 under sunny skies that drew thousands of people as well to the National Mall to hear many speakers at the Lincoln Memorial.
